Glitter refused entry to Hong Kong

Glitter refused entry to Hong Kong

Paedophile pop star Gary Glitter has been refused entry to Hong Kong by Chinese authorities, the Foreign Office has confirmed.

Having travelled under his real name Paul Gadd, there was no sign of the shamed rock star several hours after his arrival.

Hong Kong's airport arrivals gate was shut after midnight, with the last of the day's passengers, including those from Bangkok, believed to have passed through.

Glitter was booted out of Vietnam on Tuesday at the end of his sentence for child sex abuse but feigned ear and heart problems in Bangkok to miss a connecting flight to London, over fears of a hostile reception.

He had arrived in the Thai capital after a 90-minute flight from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, after serving two years and nine months of a three-year sentence for abusing two girls aged 10 and 11.

In Thailand, officials refused to let him through passport control and into the country and Glitter demanded to be allowed to fly to Singapore.

In a statement police said: "We are barring entry to Paul Francis Gadd and will be deporting him to his home country, England, unconditionally and even if he does not wish to board the plane. We are now waiting to return him to England as soon as possible."

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has said she does not want him to be able to travel abroad again should he return to the UK.

And children's charities have criticised his stated intention of returning to the UK to take advantage of the NHS.
